Why is Gutter Cleaning so Important?
It’s Autumn, which means it’s time to talk about gutters.
Like many homeowners, you may take your gutters for granted. However, it’s important to remember that the gutters are part of your roofing system designed to guide water away from your home.
The roof drives water to the gutters, and the gutters direct it away from your house. If this system malfunctions, water can seep into the home and cause massive damage.
You may think that a gutter full of leaves, sticks and debris is no big deal, but that build up can stay for a long time, causing water to back up into the home. In addition, pests, rodents, and mold can take up residence in the debris. This build up also makes a great place for the honeycombs of bees to start.
Instead of paying a few hundred for gutter cleaning, you could end up paying thousands in wood rot repair, roof repair, siding repair, and more! Also, if a gutter weighed down with debris breaks, replacement can be costly. Not to mention, you might be showered with a rain of debris and spiders etc!
To DIY or not to DIY?
So now you need to clean your gutters, but should you do it yourself? Like all DIY projects, the answer depends on your skill and bravery. We recommend only cleaning your own gutters if you’re familiar with doing work on a ladder. It can be very dangerous to handle tools and debris while up in the air, and many injuries happen this way. If you have a particularly high roof or tricky gutter covers, we recommend calling a professional for sure.
